The Westbourne Centre offers teeth whitening, or teeth bleaching, treatments which can be done in your own home where you can control the process yourself, following the guidance of your general dentist.
A radiant smile can make all the difference to your self-confidence! Whether your teeth have discoloured through ageing or they’re stained by food, drink, or smoking, teeth whitening can improve the appearance of the teeth by removing surface stains and lightening the shade of the teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.
For the at-home kits to be successful your dentist will take impressions and create an accurate mould of your teeth. The fit of this mould is paramount to achieving the best results with an even colour distribution when wearing the moulds with the bleaching gel. Working with your current tooth colour, the dentist will create a personalised kit and treatment plan, taking into account any previous bleaching and your dental history, for you to follow at home.
There is no evidence to suggest that bleaching causes any long-term problems to the teeth. Some patients do complain of an increase in tooth sensitivity during treatment that can usually be controlled using sensitivity-based toothpastes. Most side-effects are usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of the treatment finishing.
